IMPORTANT: Frontpage server extensions availability

In early 2006, Microsoft announced that they are terminating the support for Frontpage Server Extensions for Linux. The termination came in effect on June 30, 2006 and updates/bugfixes/patches are no longer released. Due to this, Frontpage server extensions can be removed from our servers at anytime, without any prior notice - in case of a security problem or similar issue.

This does not mean that you will not be able to use Frontpage anymore. The extensions are needed only for certain dynamic features that can be developed in FrontPage - forms, shared borders, etc. If you do not use such features, you can continue using FrontPage indefinitely, and disable the extensions at any point in time. In such a case, you would be able to upload your FrontPage site via FTP.

If you are using dynamic components, we strongly encourage you to look for alternatives.
For example, Frontpage counter can be replaced with the counter, offered at your online Control Panel -> Counter section.

If you are using a email submission form or a Frontpage based Guestbook, you can check the "Scripts" section at your online Control Panel, and install the Formmail/Guestbook that we offer there.

What is Microsoft FrontPage?

Microsoft FrontPage is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web building program. It contains dynamic components (forms, shared borders, counters, etc), which can be easily intergrated in a Frontpage-built site. For the dynamic components to work, FrontPage requires proprietary plugins known as the FrontPage Server Extensions to be installed and activated on the server.
FrontPage Server Extensions are installed by default on our servers and can be activated from the FrontPage section of the online Control Panel.
Read more about the FP server extensions availability here.

How to Enable/Disable MS FrontPage extensions for my account?

FrontPage extensions for your account are not active by default. If you plan on using Microsoft FrontPage to build and upload your web site, you will need to first activate the FrontPage extensions for your account. Extensions can be activated at the FrontPage section of the online Control Panel.

Once you login to your Control Panel at http://your_domain/cp and navigate to the FrontPage section, you will see a list of all your subdomains.

To activate FrontPage extensions, click on the Enable button next to the subdomain you have chosen. FrontPage extensions will be activated for the chosen subdomain within 5 minutes (you can refresh/reload the page to see the updated status).
Once FrontPage extensions are activated, the FP Status column changes to Enabled and the button changes to Disable.

To disable FrontPage extensions, click on the Disable button, next to the subdomain you have chosen. FrontPage extensions will be disabled for the chosen subdomain within 5 minutes.

If for some reason FrontPage extensions activation fails, the status will revert to Disabled. In such case please contact our tech support team for assistance.

How do I create a feedback form with FrontPage?

Creating a feedback form in MS FrontPage is pretty easy. These instructions are meant for FP 2000/2002/2003.

Start your FrontPage and open a blank page or add a new page to your existing FrontPage web.

Once you have the blank page open, please follow the instructions below:

1. From the Insert menu, choose Form. Please note the submenu that pops out. If you drag it out you can make it a floating toolbar so you won't need to goto Insert-> Form from the top menu each time you need to add new element to your feedback form.

76-1147126584.gif

2. If you choose to drag the menu off, the toolbar will look like the image below.

Please note that if you place your mouse over any button, a ToolTip will popup with brief description what the button does.

83-1147126604.gif

3.Click on the Form button at the left end of the Form Toolbar and two buttons will be inserted into your page. By default, one of them will be Submit, and the other one will be Reset.

77-1147126584.gif

4.Place your mouse cursor to the left of the Submit button and hit the Enter key on your keyboard so you can move the buttons to the bottom of the form and give you room within the form to add other fields.

Add whatever elements you need to your form. You can add textboxes, checkboxes, dropdown lists, radio buttons, etc., as needed. You can also design the page background, fonts and styles as you need them or just use the theme or template you have on your site.

By double clicking on any form element, the Properties box for that element will be displayed. There you can change the name of the form element and some other properties. Just make sure that everything you want included in the feedback form is within the dotted lines you'll see on your screen once you have inserted the Form. Your form should look something like this:

Picture_of_a_simple_form_in_FP.gif

NOTE! On the Properties of any element, you will see a Name box. This is where you must type what you want to see in the email that is sent to you when this form is submitted. On the example above the first textfield is named "name", the second "email", etc. These names will be used in generating the feedback email that you will receive.

5. Once you are ready with your form, right click somewhere inside the Form and choose Form Properties. At the bottom there is a button named Options, it opens up the Saving Results dialog box where you can choose how the data entered by the visitor will be processed. You can choose between File Results to save to a file on your website or Email Results or both of them. Click on the E-Mail Results tab and enter the email address where you'd like to have the form result send. You can also choose what type of formatting you would like for the email, and give the email a subject line.

On the same screen you have a Reply-to field. There you can type the name of the form element that is supposed to collect the user email address. In the above example we use "email".

Use the Options button in the Form Properties to configure how you will receive results.

6. To configure a Confirmation Page that the users will see once they submit the form, you must proceed to the Confirmation page tab. FrontPage has a default confirmation page or you can create another "thank you"page in your web and select it in here by clicking on browse button..

Make your own Confirmation Page and connect it to the form here

Click OK to apply the changes and get back to your form.

7. If you do not have FP extensions installed on your hard drive, you will see the a box telling you that the email option won't work. We can assure you the email option will work once you publish your form to our server. Just make sure to click NO when prompted, so that FP doesn't remove your email address.

8. Now, please publish your site to the webserver and once ready, please test your form. If everything is correct, when you submit the form you will be taken to a confirmation screen and you should receive email at the address specified in the steps above. If you have not specified a "confirmation page" you should get a generic FP confirmation page that might look like the one here:
Form Confirmation

Why aren't my navigation buttons showing up?

Sometimes when your FrontPage extensions become corrupt or when you have used FTP(ftp://) top publish your site, the FrontPage Navigation bar
component may not show up at your page at all.

To fix this problem you have two options:

1. Republish your site using HTTP(http://www.your_domain.com).
If this does not solve the problem you have, please proceed to Option 2

2. Rebuild your site navigation structure on the server.
- Open your site "live"
- From the menu choose View -> Navigation

84-1147127094.gif

- On the Navigation view you can drag-n-drop files from your site and organize your site navigation structure which
is being used by the FrontPage Navbar component.
fp_nav02.gif

- Once you are ready, please test the site online.

If the problem has not been resolved, please contact our Support Department.
