How can I check my mail via the web and e-mail program?

You can check your email via the web anywhere you have access to the Internet.
Your webmail is located at:

http://your_domain.com/webmail/

Username: the name of the mailbox you want to check
Password: the password you have assigned to that particular mailbox

If you use a POP/IMAP program such as Eudora and Outlook, make sure your email program
is configured to use the following settings:

Incoming Mail Server: mail.your_domain.com
Outgoing (SMTP) Mail Server: mail.your_domain.com (You can also use the SMTP of your ISP)

Login: mailboxname@your_domain.com
Password: the password you have assigned to that particular mailbox

Authenticated POP (APOP)

If your email program (such as Eudora) supports the APOP authentication method,
we encourage you to use it. With APOP, your password is transmitted over the network
in an encrypted form, and cannot be intercepted by third parties in the middle.

Does the server block port 25?

Port 25 is used by the SMTP server. We do not block port 25, as it is the standard port for sending e-mail. It is possible, however, that your Internet Service Provider blocks port 25. If this is the case, you can use an alternative port for sending e-mail. It is 587 and it is rarely blocked by ISPs.

Why am I not able to send e-mail through the SMTP of my account?

Recently a lot of Internet Service Providers have applied restrictions on the use of SMTP servers outside of their network and block outbound SMTP connections as an antispam measure. Please consult your local ISP on that issue. If that is the case you will need to use their outgoing mail server in order to be able to send mail.

An alternative solution would be to configure your email program to use port 587 for the SMTP server.

Can the account be configured with a 50MB mailbox?

Yes, you can set a quota for a given mailbox. However, it cannot exceed the total disk space for your hosting account.

Please check the following article on how to configure a mailbox quota:

Control Panel -> Mail Manager -> Modify a mailbox quota

Do you offer catchall e-mail so I can get mail at addresses at my domain that I do not specifically predefine?

Yes, we do.

To setup catchall account for your domain, please open your web hosting Control Panel's Mail Manager section.

The drop-down menu at the bottom of the screen contains all your mailboxes. Select the one which you want to be the catch-all account.

Click on "Submit"

You should note that the catch-all mailbox will gather only mail sent to nonexistent mailboxes at your domain.

Also note that mail forwarding and filters (including spam and antivirus) cannot be set for the catch-all mailbox. This restriction is imposed due to security and performance considerations.

I have received a message that my e-mail account is over quota? What should I do?

Our Control panel gives you an option to configure your mailboxes for sending a warning message if they are near their quota. In this way you will avoid the risk of losing important e-mail message when there is no space left in your mailboxes.

The quota of each mailbox can be configured at your hosting account Control Panel -> Mail Manager. Jut click on the number under the “Quota” column and you will be able to change the space allocated for a given mailbox as well as you will be able to define the level in percents when the system will send an over quota notice.

Please, note that the system will send out only a SINGLE notice once your mailbox is near its space limit.

You can receive such a notice in any of the following cases:

  1. 1. You are using the Webmail to read and manage your e-mail. When using the Webmail program, all the messages you receive, compose, etc are stored on the server and in this way they fill up your mailboxes space.
  2. You download your e-mail messages to your local computer; however you have the option “Leave a copy on the server” enabled in your e-mail program.
  3. You read your e-mail messages using some e-mail program (e.g. Outlook, Eudora, Thunderbird, etc) which is configured to connect to the server using IMAP. In this case the messages are stored on the server the same way as when you are using the Webmail program.
  4. You have your mailbox set to forward to another e-mail address, but have the option “Keep a copy of the forwarded messages” enabled.
  5. You are downloading your e-mail using POP and you do not have the “Leave a copy on the server” option turned on. However, you have recently received a relatively big e-mail message that almost filled up your mailbox space.

In any of the cases above you have several options:

  1. 1. Clean up old messages from your mailbox using the Webmail program.
The easiest way to clean up old messages from your mailbox would be to use the Webmail program. Log into your Webmail program examine the messages you have in your mailbox and delete the ones you do not need (old messages, spam and virus messages that might be sitting in your mailbox, etc). Do not forget to empty the “Trash” folder as any message you delete is usually moved to the trash folder first.
  2. Download some of the messages from the server to your local computer.
In case you wish to backup the messages from your mailbox to your local computer and then delete them from the server to free up some space, you need to:
    • Configure an IMAP account in some e-mail program on your local computer. You can use any IMAP capable e-mail program (e.g. MS Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Thunderbird, Mail for Mac, Entourage, etc). You can find instructions how to configure an IMAP account, here.
    • Once you are connected to the server you will be able to select the messages you wish to backup and move them to some local folder in your e-mail program. In this way the messages will be downloaded from the IMAP folders on the server to the local folders on your computer. Once the messages are moved, they will be deleted from the server and you will have more space available in your mailbox.
  3. Increase your mailbox quota. You can increase the mailbox quota from your hosting account Control Panel -> Mail Manager section. Please note that space taken your mailboxes is counted towards your web space.

If you are not sure which option is the best for you can request more information and assistance by posting a ticket to our technical support staff.

How do I configure my MS Outlook/Outlook Express program to leave a copy of downloaded messages on the server?

When using POP3 to read your email, your email program deletes the messages from the server right after downloading them to your local computer. In case you wish to configure your Outlook program to leave a copy of the downloaded messages on the server, please follow the steps below:

For Outlook Express:

  1. Start your Outlook Express program.
  2. From the menu Tools -> Accounts.
  3. Select the account you wish to modify and then click on Properties.
  4. Go to the Advanced tab of the "Properties" window and check the Leave a copy of messages on the server option.

For MS Outlook:

  1. Start your MS Outlook program.
  2. From the menu Tools -> E-mail accounts -> View or change existing email accounts
  3. Select the account you wish to modify and then click on Change.
  4. Click on the More Settings button
  5. Go to the Advanced tab of the "Properties" window and check the Leave a copy of messages on the server option.

What is the difference between POP3 and IMAP?

POP3 (or just POP - Post Office Protocol) and IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) are protocols for email access. Both of them are supported on our servers, and you can use them to connect to your mail server.

IMAP is a protocol for accessing and handling email directly on the mail server.

POP, on the other hand, is an email protocol that mail clients use to download email messages from the remote email server.

The main difference between POP and IMAP is that IMAP manages email messages directly on the server, while POP downloads them locally, and you can manage them on your computer.

Both protocols have their advantages in certain situations. With IMAP, for example, all your email is stored in your mailbox on the server, and you can see your messages only when you are connected to the server. This allows you to connect from any computer with any email program and see all your mail and mail folders as they are on the server.

The Webmail application that we provide for email access uses IMAP. If you intend to use it for email, we would recommend that you set up your email program to use IMAP, too.

With POP, on the other hand, the messages are usually removed from the server when they are downloaded, and your email folders are set up only in the mail program on the computer you use to manage your email. POP can be used to manage your already downloaded email even when you are offline.

Another difference is that if you use IMAP, outgoing email may be stored on the server; if you use POP, though, outgoing messages will be available only locally.

I am getting the following error message when I try to send from my email program: "553: Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts". What does that mean?

The reason for this error - "'553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.5.3 - chkuser)" - is that your mail application has not authenticated to our mail server.

In order to send mail through our server, your email program must athenticate. There are two ways to do that.

The first one is to enter the username and the password in the application so that it supplies them before sending. This can be configured in the options for the email account at the email program. This is the recommended method.

The second method is called "POP/IMAP before SMTP". Basically, if you check your mail first for incoming messages, the server will remember your address for some time, and you will be able to send through it during that period without giving your username and password. This is probably the method you are using at the moment. The error message would appear after you have not checked your mail for some time, and you try to send. In this case, you should either configure your mail program to authenticate to the server in order to send, or check your email before sending.

Is there a limit to the number of recipients I send email to?

If you are using the Webmail interface, there is a limit of 100 recipients total in the To:, Cc:, and Bcc: fields. This limit cannot be increased.

However, there are no limits if you send email through our SMTP server using some local mail client like Outlook, for example.

Another option to send a message to multiple recipients is to use mailing lists. They have been specifically designed to handle sending of a single message to many subscribers, and the number of recipients you send to is not limited. Mailing lists can be created on the "Mailing List" page of the Control Panel of the hosting account.
